Book Trailer

Reflection on the process of making a book trailer

I have made videos before, but I haven’t been the one to post them. I have created one story-time video and the rest have been craft-related videos for the library I work at. When I first started making them I made using Wondershare Filmora but then the free trial expired and started looking for other editing software for videos found DaVinci Resolve and used that. It has been a while since I have created a video so when I was looking at what a book trailer could look like. I saw a video on how to create a video using Canva and I decided to try that out and see if that could work. So I started with Canva it was fun but then I had to add the audio and that was kind of a mess so I downloaded it and uploaded it to DaVinci Resolve and added the audio there. For the background music, I went between what I have used before which is YouTube Studio their audio library, and Purple Planet Music. One thing that really helped me while creating the video was the chrome extension ColorZilla it helped me match colors from the images in the book that I chose to the background color. Then I got to thinking of using the images from the book. That lead me to the publisher's website and their permissions & sub-rights which also included a form to use if one is doing a storytime using the book in a video. At this point, I kind of froze on what to do since I had mostly finished the video minus no audio yet. Nonetheless, I continued on. I chose a children’s book since those are the ones I am most familiar with as a children’s librarian. The book I chose was Tiny T. Rex and the Impossible Hug by Jonathan Stutzman; illustrated by Jay Fleck. Most of the images I used came from Canva or the book.

Same as the middle one but I talk in this one:

The reason I made the other ones instead of just sticking to the first one is that I'm thinking about copyright infringement and I think I'm tiptoeing the line.

Overall, this is easier to edit than when I do the craft videos for my library.

Promotional Flyer

Post a reflection of no more than 500 words to your blog in which you reflect on the process you went through to develop your flyers. You might...

·        explain how you used design principles.

·        discuss (and/or show) various flyer attempts that led to your final products.

·        talk about what you used and what you liked or did not like about it.

·        share how you reconciled your use of different media for the same promotional event.

Choosing a name for my public library was the hardest I thought of this assignment. I had to it for a long time Blank Public Library then I watched Turning Red, the movie, and asked my sister who watched it with me what I should name my library she said Panda, which I thought fitting, so that is why my library is called Panda Public Library. I used a nontraditional program to do my print flyer on I used PowerPoint. Mostly so I wouldn't worry about using a template for the print flyer. While for my digital flyer, I used Canva (https://www.canva.com/) and I used a template they had. I changed the template from Canva a bit. The most challenging aspect of doing a print flyer was changing the colors from RGB to CMYK. It was hard to get it right.

Here is the Print File I did before it was changed to CMYK

It looked nice brilliant color, but it lost some of the brilliance once I made it into CMYK. Then I had to change it to CMYK I had to find software that did that. I used more icons than graphics for the print flyer because it was easier to find those that could be used under the creative commons license. Next, for doing the digital flyer, I used a template but instead of using it how it came, I changed parts of it, and it was under newsletter template instead of a flyer template.

Here is what the template looked like before I changed it.

The digital flyer was easiest since I had already done the print flyer. I just changed it a bit, making the digital flyer.

Here are my final flyers.

The one I liked the most was the digital flyer.

Subscription Database Brochure Reflection

Post a reflection on your blog in which you reflect on the process you used to create your brochure. Some prompt to consider if you need reflection ideas:  Why did you choose the resources(s) that you chose? Why did you choose the format that you chose? What considerations went into the application you used to create your brochure?  How will your product help you better serve your patrons? Include screenshots of your brochure as part of your post.

I decided to do a brochure on how to access Hoopla but go a little further on how to get more kid-related items. I created a tri-fold brochure it was easier but I kind of wanted to do a half-folded brochure, but I couldn’t figure it out, so I moved on to a tri-fold brochure a blank template on Canva. I used a blank template because I didn’t like the ones I saw but the background looks a little sad I could have used a template but I’m undecisive that’s why I went with a blank template. Besides that, I think it looks okay not the greatest thing in the world, but I like it. I decided to do the brochure on how to access Hoopla because lately I have been getting questions about it we already have a brochure on that but I decided to just start from scratch. Also, since I work as a children’s librarian, I thought of a step further than I could take it is how to get it to kid’s mode. In a sense, it is easier for everyone to use to know how to access Hoopla and know why they might not be getting access to certain materials if they are in kid’s mode. Which has been asked before by a parent saying they can’t read a title or even look up a title because they had previously gotten a children’s item. The title/item that they were looking for was in the adult section and in the kid’s mode making it unviewable. In a sense having this around for when people could be beneficial for parents and people who would rather not talk to someone.

The thing is that at the library I work at I wouldn’t be doing a brochure I would be doing the bare bones of what I want to include to make the brochure but actually do it no. The reason is that we have a marketing person that is in charge of any and all promotional items that have the library’s logo and they have a set of templates already that we can use. So, this isn’t what they would do they would probably make it way better, but I created it with the idea of we don’t have a person who does marketing stuff. So, here is the brochure that I made.
